Director's Note

As students on campus turn in their final papers and head for summer jobs and internships or launch into the working world, PISA retains its cycle of activity and plans for upcoming projects.  Over the last two years, we have greatly benefitted from the outstanding contribution of Mary Howard to every aspect of our initiatives. As Mary leaves for a new position, we wish her every success and the assurance that she will be missed.

In other news, we are proud to acknowledge and express our gratitude for an important sustaining gift from the Chino Cienega Foundation. The funds will support our partnership with the Myanmar organization ALARM and Yangon University to launch a center for environmental conservation and climate change governance. The need to institutionalize cross-disciplinary education on conservation, resource management, and response to the challenge of climate change could not be more urgent for Myanmar.

This summer, in collaboration with Liaoning University in Shenyang, China, we also look forward to initiating an interdisciplinary academic dialogue with scholars from China, the United States, Europe and the Korean Peninsula on sustainable development and the Asia-Pacific Future. This work is funded by a generous grant from the Henry Luce Foundation.

In past months we have organized a number of public events on North Korea and Myanmar.
